Welcome 3/22 Enlistees

The Snails are the longest running (pun intended!) and most resilient running group in The Corps. We started out in 2016 as mid-week training for the Army Half Marathon (AHM) and, as much as recent Covid restrictions would allow, the Snails have been running ever since. If that seems like a ‘siao on’ group that are too next level to join, let me assure you we are not…

  • We run on Tuesday’s (of course!) at 1900h (try not to be late).

  • We meet directly in front of Stadium MRT Exit A (between the Sports Library and Cheers). https://goo.gl/maps/LLmUm7YkzsJncvy49

    • Keep an eye out for folk in SAFVC blue/yellow running shirts.

  • How far do we run? That’s 100% up to the individual. We’d certainly encourage everyone to have 2.4km as their minimum and the Snails regularly run 4 or 5km distances.

    • Start small (don't be shy) and build up, but whatever distance you choose, be honest to yourself and complete it.

    • (SAF Core Values: Discipline, Professionalism and Fighting Spirit.)

  • How fast do we run? That’s 100% up to the individual. (To give you an idea of entry level standards; a Snails regular, SV3 Alex, claims it is impossible to run slower than he does, as that’s called walking.)

  • What happens after the run? Usually a couple of rounds of tabata and sometimes runners will then go and have dinner together. (Don’t know what tabata is? Don’t worry, we’ll show you. It doesn’t hurt too much. 😉)

All jokes and teasing aside, like it or not, you will need to move fast during BT and you’ll need to have decent cardiovascular ability (not Olympic standard, but decent). Being called up for BT does not guarantee you are already fit enough, some of you will be, some of you not yet. If you know you’re good enough already then great. If you’re not sure then assume you’re not and use the next 2 months to get there. You can do it and The Snails will help you... but The Snails can only help you if you join us.

  • Want to know what BT is like? Come and join us.

  • Want to know what the canteen food is like? Come and join us.

  • Want to know what to bring into Camp (or not!)? Come and join us.

    • (SAF Core Value: Care For Soldiers.)
