Help build houses in Batam, Indonesia

SVxSV is putting together a Make A Difference (MAD) Mission to build houses in Batam for vulnerable homeowners. This simple but meaningful mission is designed to introduce fellow SVs to humanitarian work and an opportunity to connect, share and bond together over a worthwhile cause. The mission will support Habitat for Humanity Singapore and Indonesia to provide support for vulnerable homeowners living in unconducive and hazardous environments through the reconstruction of their homes.

Whether it's medical support in Afghanistan or Disaster Relief Missions in the region, the SAF has a strong tradition of providing humanitarian support around the world.

How to get involved

There two ways to get involved with this MAD Mission:

  1. Participate. Join our Build Team to help build housing over 2 days.

  2. Fundraise. Help organise fundraising activities to help raise funds for the build.

  3. Donate. Support the mission by donating to the cost of the build.

Join the 10-strong Build Team

As a member of the Build Team, participants will depart early on Day 1 from Singapore to travel to the build site at Batam. After the morning briefing, the team will start work on the house and continue after lunch. Work at the site finishes at 1700 and participants will be transported to overnight accommodation. Day 2 starts early at 0700 and continues through the day, finishing in the afternoon to ensure that participants arrive back in Singapore at 1930.

The work requires manual labour as there is no machine equipment at the site and participants will need to be physically fit to join the build. The activities include:

  • Passing of bricks in a human chain

  • Cutting reinforced bars

  • Hand-mixing cement

  • Brick-laying

  • Plastering

Participants will work alongside Habitat staff and masons who will guide them through the build.

Minimum: 8 pax | Maximum: 10 pax

Accommodation

Accommodation will be based on two people sharing and be gender-based.

Participation Fee

Once you place on the Build Team is confirmed, you will need to pay a Participation Fee of $250 per person. This includes meals, transport, and accommodation.

Fundraising and Donating

The mission requires a fundraising target of $8,000 which pays for the build of the housing to the beneficiary. If we fall short of this fundraising goal, the mission is a no-go.

We invite all SVs, HQ personnel and their friends and family to help raise awareness for the project and encourage a donation to support the mission.

All funds will be raised using the GIVE.asia platform where it will be sent directly to Habitat for Humanity Singapore. No funds are channeled through SVxSV.
